In 1851 - the New York Yacht Club and its 101-foot schooner ‘’America'’ won a 60-mile regatta around the Isle of Wight - beating 14 British yachts. They renamed the trophy ‘’The America’s Cup'’ - and so was born one of the oldest international sporting events.
