Mexican beans cannot jump?

Many people ask "why do Mexican jumping beans jump?" Here is the reason for why they are so, it is because it is only in few small areas they are found in Mexico and they jumping bean is called as hopper or brincadore. In the spring the female moth lays eggs on the blooming flowers of the (Sebastiana Pavoniana) tree. On the host flowers you can see the bean or small pod which has grown from the stage of worms after many weeks when the eggs hatched. Now the bean or pod will harden slowly and moth larva that lives inside will start to feed on the pod's interior. When spring rain begins, the bean or pod that has moth larva inside falls to ground and it then begins to jump and bounce on ground. As the way of surviving, the pod or bean will jump. This enables them to bounce to a cooler place to avoid the heat and the sun. Eventually, after several months, the larva will go dormant and start to spin a cocoon inside the pod. After this stage is over metamorphosis will begin and through the small hole the moth will enlarge from the pod. Amazing!

Next comes about how to care and store the Mexican jumping beans. The Mexican jumping beans will remain dormant when they are stored in some dark and cool environment. And at the same time they should not be exposed to very cold temperature because they find it difficult to survive at freezing temperature. When the beans are exposed to sunlight and warmth (such as the warmth from your hand) they will begin to jump.

It is also equally important to soak the jumping beans in the non chlorinated water for about 4 to 6 hours once in every 4 to 5 weeks of time. Chlorinated tap water will kill them. You can also store the jumping beans in butter compartment of the refrigerator when you want them to be quire or when not playing with them. The jumping beans may remain quite or dormant there. However, be careful they don't freeze. Some refrigerators are set to be colder than others.

Where can you find Mexican jumping beans? Jumping beans are usually sent out in small containers with a few beans in each container. They are sent in clear plastic boxes with a hinge, so you can release them in to your hand and play with them.

The racing game sheet is also provided along sometimes therefore you can use this to have races. On the either side of the racing sheet you can find the information about jumping beans and about how to take care of them.
