The most obvious way to decorate is with a starfish tree topper on the top in place of the traditional star. You can glue a sprinkling of glitter, in either gold, silver, or possibly red or green to add some sparkle. Draping streamers from the starfish on top down the sides of the tree can add to the holiday look. Very small seashells might be pierced with a small drill and a ribbon or yarn run through the hole to hang it from the tree. If you don't want the hanger to show, use fishing line.
Shapes might be cut from driftwood or rustic pieces of wood, painted or stained, and short holiday expressions painted on them. These are great for door hangers or to replace a wreath. The wreath can also be decorated with seashells, pieces of coral, driftwood, and a Santa made from wood and painted as if surfing.
Table centerpieces are another way to incorporate Christmas beach decor. A tray of white sand makes an attractive display when decorated by partially embedding small shells, coral, or seaweed in the sand. Thread fish net, miniature anchors and other themed items, threading all with ribbons in Christmas colors. Glittery or glass ball ornaments make a beautiful addition to the whole arrangement, appearing as ocean bubbles.
Place cards decorated with a combination of holiday themes and seashells can make for a very festive look, but be reminiscent of the seaside as well. Tree skirts and cards decorated with flip flops, surf boards, a variety of seashells, and different varieties of colorful coral or seaweed make attractive decorations. These should be either decoupaged or appliqued, depending on the materials used.
A very beautiful ornament that looks professional is often made from a clear glass ball ornament, some red or green confetti, glittery confetti shapes, and small seashells, seaweed, or very small pieces of coral. Drop in confetti strips and shapes, and any pieces of coral or small seashells that will go into the opening. After all pieces are in and placed, take a small funnel and pour a small amount of sand in the bottom. Only a few very small pieces of shells should be used.
A fillable balloon wrap can also be used for this decoration, but with larger and more items. The machines used to fill these balloons are rather expensive, but you may be able to rent one. This allows you to build with larger items, making an actual scene. Items can be glued of necessary.
